Summary
The supply-side stress that defined the Hormuz crisis softened at the margin during this window, driven by falling prices rather than new molecules. European jet fuel was still tracking toward the IEA’s shortage threshold in June, but the acute crisis eased as oil and gas prices dropped on deal optimism, with European gas falling alongside crude. Qatar’s Ras Laffan restart produced no confirmed in-window progress report, leaving the destroyed Trains 4 and 6 on a multi-year rebuild. India continued to position toward a US energy partnership without formalizing a bilateral framework.
Europe
European jet fuel inventories were running near multi-year lows and, per a Goldman Sachs projection, tracking below the IEA’s 23-day threshold in June. The pressure eased as prices fell. European gas at the TTF hub fell to about 46 euros per megawatt hour on June 12, declining with the broader risk-off-on-peace move rather than spiking. The European Commission continued to characterize the market as tight but without current fuel shortages, and announced no new emergency measure in the window. The earlier wave of airline cancellations, including more than 150 KLM flights and roughly 1,000 SAS flights cut in April, was not extended by a fresh mass-cancellation event in the window. The feared June below-threshold reading is arriving statistically while falling prices relieve the pressure faster than cancellations escalate.
Qatar Ras Laffan
No fresh, in-window progress report on train restarts surfaced. The standing record remains the April and early-May baseline: two of three North-1 trains reactivated, the full North site targeted within about a month, and all twelve operable trains not before late August. Trains 4 and 6, about 12.8 million tonnes per annum or roughly 17 percent of Qatari exports, were destroyed and face a multi-year rebuild gated by gas-turbine lead times. The North Field East expansion resumed full construction. The late-August all-trains milestone and the mid-2026 North Field East startup are load-bearing dates for global LNG supply, and neither was confirmed on track in this window.
India
No formalized bilateral energy framework closed in the window. India’s broader trade reset carries energy commitments feeding a goal of 500 billion dollars in trade by 2030, and a one-year deal for 2.2 million tonnes of US LPG for 2026 stands. India continued to decline sanctioned Russian LNG while a second 30-day waiver for Russian seaborne crude was extended in mid-May. India is choosing the US partnership path without yet signing it. Conclusions
The supply side is loosening with sentiment, not with capacity. Lower prices ease Europe’s bill and India’s import pressure, but the structural deficits remain. Qatar’s destroyed trains are a multi-year hole, European winter storage is still set to be understocked, and India’s lifeline is diplomatic rather than physical. If the Hormuz deal signs, the relief accelerates. If it collapses, these are the pressure points that re-tighten first.
Our Thinking
For the AI and energy thesis, this note is the counterweight to the unwinding macro story. The oil price can normalize quickly. LNG capacity cannot. The Qatari rebuild and European storage are reminders that some of the crisis is physical and slow, the same lesson the AI buildout is learning about turbines and transformers. Cheap oil does not rebuild a liquefaction train any more than a large budget builds a substation.
